Japanese Art At a Glance

- Image via Wikipedia
The country of Japan is known for its prosperous art history that stretches over hundreds of years. Over the years the Japanese have maintained their traditional methods while adopting foreign influences within their own framework. Japanese art is found in a wide range of mediums exhibiting the aesthetic sense and skilfulness of its people.
From fascinating paintings to elegant pottery and from the artistic sculptures to the unique art of flower arrangement known as Ikebana you will find that the Japanese artists have expressed themselves through a wide range of mediums. Another unique form of art from Japan is that of Origami which involves folding paper in order to create designs. The Japanese are also known for their tattoo designs which have now spread all around the world.
As stated by the studies and excavations, painting is the first invented form of Japanese art. The inherited skilfulness and the adopted foreign effects have provided different styles to the Japanese paintings. They have developed their own method of painting from all of these things.
Japanese art forms had different influences during changing times. The Nara period for example is known for beautiful murals. These could be found on temple walls and other places of worship. The Chinese influence is quite prominent in the conventional Japanese art of that time.
Ink painting is also a major part of the traditional Japanese art. An overwhelming number of Monochrome landscape paintings can also be found from Japan. Abstract art has always been and still is a prominent part of the Japanese culture.
Japanese pottery is also something that is highly revered on a global scale. The Buddhist period of Japan inspired the artists to produce many beautiful sculptures on the theme. Through the changing years the sculptors used various metals, wood and clay.
In the more recent years sculptures became a prominent feature of Japanese art. Even today we find many outdoor sculptures in the various cities of Japan especially in parks where they are used as part of the landscape design. The Japanese also used natural materials for the purpose of creating sculptures.
There are certain art forms that are only to be seen in Japan. For example the art form named Bonsai is a product of the country. This exclusive art form is about growing tiny plants. Ikebana as mentioned earlier is another trademark art form of Japan in addition to the art of folding paper known as origami.
Ukiyo-e, Japanese type of wood block painting is another conventional art from Japan. Japanese art of tea preparation and serving is a famous folklore in the name of Japanese tea ceremony. Japanese martial arts like Karate and Judo need no explanation. Japanese people have proved that poetry also will yield to them.

United Kingdom And Republic Of Ireland
Just as the magnetic ends attracting each other, simple things have been able to attract the complex life structure of some people and complex things have been able to attract the hearts of the people who lead a simple life. How ironic this concept seems? However, this concept has been proved so many times by many people, that there is no way of denying this inevitable truth. Likewise another instance for this piece of truth is the influence which the Irish have for the British ways of living and vice verse.
However, in the past centuries, there was a feud between the greater United Kingdom and the simple and peaceful Ireland. Irish people had ideals which were very simple and the people of the United Kingdom found it amusing and less worthy of their status. The conflicts that occurred between the two most prestigious regions of the world had not been very severe till the fifteenth century and most of the incidents before that time had been between a few groups of both sides alone.
Conflicts beyond all normal limits were seen during those times and the fifteenth century was the start of a tremendous agitation, when Henry the eighth planned to bring Ireland under the leadership of the English government. The idea was to stop the Irish from opposing the English rules and dictatorship and to prevent the Island from becoming a base for future rebellions or foreign invasions of England. The dawn of 1541 made Henry declare himself as King of Ireland and the entire stretch of Irish lands were conquered by the British forces.
Many Irish men rose against this in small groups again but as they were not organized properly, they were quelled as easily as a bonfire when water is poured on it. Many Englishmen came to Ireland and settled in the most rich land stretches of the country and profited immensely by plundering everything in them. The English was so cruel that even the pubs in England and the ones they had set up in Ireland was ordered to have plaques outside which read, “No Dogs, No Irish”. They had the nerve of copying and plundering the valuable resources from Ireland during their period of reign there.
England’s crown government made it possible for the people of England to migrate to Ireland and take care of the plantations there. In 1791, the inception of the society of the united Irishmen and in 1800, the Act of Union with the United Kingdom was the causes for making the feud subside greatly.
During the period of the Englishmen in Ireland, they had made several finest English architectural examples across the Irish lands which were admired by the Irish in spite of their hatred for Englishmen. But by the introduction of the Act of Union, the Irish and the Englishmen have been able to share their knowledge and live in peace after the eighteenth in a slow and steady manner. The Irish are now enjoying the same rights that an Englishman gets in England and the same prevails in Ireland too.

Brief Story About Britain, Northern Ireland And Republic Of Ireland
Seventeenth century was the period of invasion, plundering and insulting incidents for the people of Ireland which were so drastic in nature. Everyone in the Irish soil will tell such stories about the true past of Ireland that will make our hairs stand on end. Many have died and many have survived this brutal period just long enough to tell the tale to their children and grandchildren. The small groups of rebels in the Irish lands were brutally suppressed by forcing them to follow the ideals of their religion and culture; this was a dark period in the Irish history.
In the early parts of the eighteenth century, the English and the Irish had made the Act of Union and this enabled the differences between the two regions to subdue greatly. North and South parts of the Irish lands were facing internal conflicts which were mainly on whether to follow their old customs or to follow new principles in governing the region better.
Prosperity kissed the northern part of Ireland and kicked at the southern part of it, which made the difference in opinion amongst them more opposing than before. The prosperity of the northern parts was due to the tremendous improvement in industries and manufacturing units, with the help of the Britain. The southern regions were suffering due to uneven distribution of lands and due to steady flow of problems from the British and the Northern Irish settlers. The riots which followed this event was so intense that the help of British government was sought; this resulted in the permanent division of Ireland into northern and southern regions.
The Catholics wanted complete independence in this division and there was huge political unrest in the Irish lands for a good part of the early twentieth century. In 1920, the Government of Ireland act was passed in an effort to pacify all of the Irish community which however did not serve its purpose well. British forces stationed in the Irish lands had to face countless attacks from the Irish Republican Army or the IRA with the use of guerrilla warfare style.
Following these unforgettable events, in the year 1921, the legendary treaty of peace was signed between the 23 southern counties and 3 counties in Ulster of Ireland and was declared independent while 6 counties of Ulster were joined together as the Northern Ireland and were made part of the United Kingdom. Finally, in the year 1949, the independent republic of Ireland was formed and things seemed to have come into control after this for some time.
Ireland had to face more problems in the year from 1960 to 1990 in the form of bloody violence between the Catholics and the Protestants in the land. Intensive armed attacks between the Independent Republican Army and the Protestant paramilitary forces broke out, forcing them to seek help from the British troops again to resolve matters. This brought about the signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement between the British and the Irish Prime ministers. Following the cease fire from the IRA, the implementation of this treaty was successful in 1994. At last, in 2010, all the governing powers of Irish lands were given back to Ireland, but the echoes of the past still resound once in a while.

Fred Astaire’s Life & Work
He was born as Fred Austerlitz near the turn of the century and is considered to be one of the greatest tap dancers that ever lived. Having performed on Broadway, he brought a great deal of grace and style to bear that greatly influenced how future dancers would view their work.
Fred Astaire started on Vaudeville performing alongside his sibling, Adele. She eventually retired, leaving Fred to seek film work. Though his initial screen tests were disappointing, he managed to convince the RKO studio “Head of Production” that he had something special to contribute. This led to his appearance in many great movies, including those that feature him dancing alongside the incredible Ginger Rogers.
Fred Astaire always seemed to be improvising in his films, despite the fact that he often spent many hours tightly choreographing every step of his dances. Given his success, studio executives granted him complete autonomy over his work. With this freedom he was able to change the way dancers were featured in film, demanding that the dancer’s always be shot full frame, without resorting to closeups of their feet, hands, or faces. Also, Fred Astaire believed that his dances should move the film plot forward rather than just showcasing his great moves. By merging dance and acting in this way, he was able to make the segments more engaging to World War II era audiences. His genius resulted in tap dancing becoming a highly valued film dance style.
Fred Astaire died of pneumonia on June 22, 1987. He was interred wearing a smoking jacket, black pants, and patent leather shoes. Fred Astaire’s life will likely never be portrayed on film as this would be against his wishes. He felt that any such portrayal would misinterpret his life and fail to honor his truth. Footage of him dancing was allowed to be used in a Dirt Devil vacuum commercial in accord with his wish that he only be seen dancing with an electrical appliance after his death.
Fred Astaire’s impact on the world’s tap dancing & movies cannot be understated. He was a true legend of stage and film!

A Brief History Of Water Gardening
If asked the majority of people would say that the garden pond hobby is a relatively new phenomenon. The main reasons for this being its increasing cover on TV and in media circles.
In actual fact it has been around for thousands of years, offering enjoyment and inspiration in peoples day to day and religious activities.
As far as is known the earliest records of people creating water gardens for relaxation and delight date back to about 3000 BC. The ancient Egyptians laid out formal ponds often surrounded by fruit trees and decorative plants and grasses in the walled courtyards of their houses.
Wealthy Roman homes tended to be designed around a large colonnaded central courtyard with pools, fountains and water features, providing shade on hot afternoons and a means of escape from the often chaotic and dirty streets outside. However, public baths often had a water garden area where the general public could relax away from their daily troubles.
Set in connected, enclosed courtyards the Persians and Moors produced amazingly beautiful water gardens. The water courses and pools were built with brightly coloured ceramic tiles and together with a formal design to join the various courtyards, these gardens had an intimate and luxurious feel. The Moors and Persians also used fruit trees and ornamental plants carefully arranged in formal compositions.
The peoples of Japan and China have been perfecting the art of water gardening for thousands of years. There it truly is an art, practised by the masters of the craft. The teachings of zen, harmony, peace of mind and restraint are used to carefully design and create the individual persons ideal of their perfect environment. Japanese water gardens principally focus on a large, deep and clear pond devoid of plant life but housing any number of attractively colourful koi carp.
Unlike the gardens of the Moors and Egyptians the Japanese garden is not really a place for fruit trees. The position of every tree and flower is carefully contemplated, spiritual comfort and pleasure the only goals.
In Europe over recent centuries only the super rich and royalty could afford the decadence and luxury of ornate water gardens, you need only look at the huge amount of great homes in Europe with extensive watercourses and bodies.
Its only in the last few decades that we have enjoyed a Water Garden Renaissance, expanding and growing as more and more individuals come to understand how spiritually relaxing and refreshing a well fashioned water garden can be.

Face Cards in a Deck of Cards: How Did They Evolve?
A military commander in the French army, who was in combat along with Joan of Arc was also an artisan who designed and crafted cards. His name was Etienne de Vignolles, AKA La Hire. Saint Joan so impressed him with her courage and heroic deeds that he removed the knight in the deck in favor of a dame. Decorating cards with religious motifs, or those depicting human forms were not a problem to the Catholic Church. King David was symbolized in the deck with the king of spades with sword in hand and quiver at his feet. Charles the Great was represented by the king of clubs, Julius Caesar became the king of diamonds, and Alexander the Great, the king of hearts. The four sources of western civilization were thus represented by the four kings.
Today’s Queens and Jacks did not evolve as consistently. Athena represented the queen of spades, undoubtedly also drawn to be reminiscent of the soldier, Joan of Arc. Rachel, for whom Jacob hung around for 14 years to marry was the queen of diamonds. Oddly, the queen of hearts was depicted by Judith, the lovely maiden who lopped off the head of Holofernes. Now it gets complicated: the queen of clubs was an amalgamation of an abstract favorite of kings, termed Argine, which may have been named for an anagram of regina (queen). But again, it could have been used to suggest Joan of Arc as the king of clubs was depicted by Charles the Great, a very distinguished French Catholic honcho.
A knight from Charlemagne’s court served as prototype for the jack of spades; Hector – for diamonds; la Hire for hearts; and Judas Maccabeus for clubs. As a variation of this, the four jacks represented four famous knights, with their names printed below them on the cards: Lancelot, Ogier, Roland, and Valery. Youthful, beardless, warriors with long haircuts wielded a battle axe. All except Valery (who happened to be the chief craftsman of that deck) had a scent hound at their feet.
Going lower on the scale, we have cards ten down to two, marked with their corresponding number and value. The Ace which was an English word meaning “unit” had translations in French, Spanish, German and other equivalents as well, such as: as, ass, aus, etc. The Ace was ranked lower than even the two. This greatly upset the Catholic Church of the middle ages as God was “one” and any numeric system defining His number as lowly was blasphemous and smacked as consorting with the devil. Should you disagree with this theory, you would undoubtedly come to see it their way on your way to the dungeon.
Today, the Ace symbolized a kind of quintessence – associated freely with anything from the exposed essence of woman to what the physicists call the “naked singularity” – which is greater in value than any single influential personage. But can a single and the simplest of the cards in the deck stand for anything at once and should one privilege its scientific baseness or metaphysical elevation?
The question remains as arguable today as it was during the middle ages. In many countries there is no clear cut distinction between spiritual and earthly values, both being essential to present-day self definition. Today perhaps more than ever, any good citizen reveres the national, the mystical, the quantum-physical, and the downright pornographic of Esquire decks. The Ace is all or nothing, depending on how you see the contemporary concoction of concepts, and symbolizes best, perhaps, a kind of postmodern rhetorical indeterminacy which can take you anywhere or nowhere.
Back to earth – cards serve the same purpose today as they did back in the middle ages. The rank of cards in the deck possibly reflecting back on the rank of humanity in society, from monarch to serf, with value depending upon rarity and the specific results of thousands of combinations.

Chinese Tea Sets Come With A Secret Custom: Finger Tapping
Although the first fine china tea sets were used over 5,000 years ago, many ancient customs from that time are still popular today.
One of the customs is finger tapping, which amazes many who are new to the world of Chinese tea. It is a gesture that shows your respect to your host.
As the Chinese tea customs go, when tea is served, the guests should thank their host for the tea. However, many find it interesting that rather than say it, the Chinese simply tap the table with three of their fingers (the middle, index, and ring fingers). Each time you get your cup refilled, you repeat the gesture.
The gesture isn’t superstitious at all. In fact, the story of finger tapping dates back over 200 years to the Qing dynasty.
At that time, the ruling emperor traveled all over the empire to see how everyday people were doing. He would go literally everywhere in the country. But he never missed a visit to the local tea house.
Then on one occasion, the emperor cam across a tea house in a very small village where the waiters could bend their bodies in almost inhuman ways to serve tea around the table. The emperor wanted to tries this pay of pouring tea.
Normally everyone would have to bow down to the emperor at first sight, and of course if the emperor ever served you tea you had to hank him in some way! But there was no way for them to bow down, because doing so would completely blow the emperor’s cover.
Then one of the ministers thought of a way to thank the emperor: he tapped his fingers on the table, thereby symbolizing the bow he would have usually performed.
Thus, the finger tapping gesture was born! The tale spread fast. Before long, the gesture became popular in tea drinking, as both commoners and officials alike all tried to copy their emperor.
Whenever you’re enjoying a great cup of tea, particularly if it’s from a fine china tea set, be sure to thank your host in the most traditional way: tap your fingers!
Author D. Cheng has written about Chinese culture, calligraphy, and arts & crafts such as porcelain china tea sets for years. Occasionally, he endorses skilled Chinese craftsmen. Check out some excellent China tea sets.
African History And African Slaves
It’s sad to realize that such a large part of African history relates to the African slave trade. This was the unfortunate era during which African men, women and children were ripped from their homes and sold to serve as slaves in other regions of the world.
When Europe’s New World empires began to flourish, their rulers discovered that an extensive workforce was needed to deal with all the new land. This need for large numbers of workers became the impetus behind the transatlantic slave trade. African slaves brought over to do the work were perfect for the job – they understood agriculture and cattle management, and they were accustomed to working in hot tropical climates. Beginning in the 15th century, many African people were captured and brought to the New World colonies in order to work in mines or on large farms and plantations.
It might surprise you to know that African slavery was not actually new to Africa, and had actually been going on for centuries by that time nor was it the sole brainchild of evil Europeans. In fact, from about fourteen fifty to the end of nineteenth century, African kings and merchants actually were fully cooperative with slave traders and were willing participants in the slave trade process.
The transatlantic slave trade operated a bit differently than many people think. It was an integral part of what was known as the “Triangular Trade,” a very profitable three-step practice. The Triangular Trade’s first step involved the importation of European manufactured goods into Africa. European metal goods, beads, tobacco and other goods were brought into Africa, then traded for African slaves. Even guns were involved, because they helped the Europeans expand their empires and catch more slaves. That particular practice backfired later, when the guns were turned against their former European owners.
The slaves were then shipped to the Americas as the second part of the Triangular Trade. The third and final stage of the trade was that a return to Europe was made with products from plantations run by slave labor, such as molasses, tobacco, cotton and sugar. When transatlantic slave trade began, slaves were first taken from Senegambia and the Windward Coast, and then moved to West Central Africa in Angola and the Congo in the 1650s.
From fourteen forty to about sixteen forty, Portugal was actually the only country to export African slaves. Interestingly, they were also the last country in Europe to abolish the institution of slavery, although it continued to utilize slaves as contract laborers even after that practice was defunct. Britain was the worst transgressor during the height of the slave trade and during this difficult time in African history, though, with 2.5 million of the roughly 6 million slaves transported during that time directly Britain’s responsibility.
African slaves endured horrific conditions during the transportation process. Forced marches through Africa and squalid shipboard conditions caused an estimated -13% of all African slaves to die before reaching their intended destinations. Those that survived were shipped to the Caribbean, the Spanish Empire and Portugal’s Brazil. Less than 5% were sent to North America.
The effects of slavery are still felt today. Descendants of African slaves are scattered throughout the world because that’s where their ancestors were forcibly taken. African-American author and activist Maulana Karenga described the slave trade and its effects as “the morally monstrous destruction of human possibility … poisoning past, present and future relations with others who only know us through this stereotyping and thus damaging the truly human relationships among people of today.” In fact, he said, African slavery didn’t destroy just the people who lived through that period of African history, it destroyed their language, their culture, and their religion, and it destroyed the very essence of “human possibility.

How To Find Out Anyone’s Past With A Criminal Background Check
If you have ever wondered about someone’s past, you may have considered running a background check on them. By doing so, you can find out full information about anyone’s history.
It used to be the case that the only way to do a background check on someone was to hire a private investigator. The web has now made this far easier to do. A background check can be done on anyone now without even getting up from your computer!
People will run background checks for various reasons. They might be checking into an employee’s background or maybe you or someone in your family has started dating someone that you are curious about.
Some people run a background check on themselves just to see if the information which comes up is accurate. If discrepancies are found, you’ll be able to contact the holders of this information to make the needed corrections.
There are now online companies that provide background checks to the general public. They compile massive databases of background information and government documents that can be searched through.
Background checks generally can find information about the following: credit history, criminal record, prior addresses, marriages and other records. A background check can reveal much of a person’s life story.
However, these background checks are not usually free. While they are not terribly expensive, these companies charge a fee to recoup the costs of maintaining these databases. However, you can try something else to find some information before paying a fee.
You can try Goolgling someone first ? enter their name (in quotes) followed by the city they live in e.g; “Jane Doe” Boston. Search and you may find some information.
More likely though, you won’t find anything, at least not any useful information. Especially if the person has a common name, you might get thousands of hits for others with the same name. You will also probably not find any detailed information. However, since it’s free, Google is still worth a try here.
If a Google search fails to turn up the information you want, then you can go to a background check company instead. You should look for one which offers a money back guarantee so that if they fail to turn anything up, you won’t have to pay.
You can also opt for a service which lets you perform unlimited background checks for a one time membership fee. This way you can do all of the background checks you need, any time you need to do so.
An online background check is simple, can turn up the information you need and makes you feel like a detective; all without leaving your chair!
